The idea of industrial design and a
contemporary theory of design aesthetics.

This article brings attention to the importance of clarification of basic assumptions, concepts, and ideology in industrial design. The concept of ‘everyday aesthetics’ is introduced and exemplified by the idea of experience in Dewey’s philosophy, where the notions ‘form’ and ‘aesthetic form’ are explained as forms of experience. Since the meaning of experience in Dewey’s philosophy is near Bourdieu’s concept ‘habitus’, the basic ideas behind Dewey’s reasoning and Bourdieu’s sociology are compared. This comparison illustrates the need to clarify the assumptions underlying different research perspectives, in order to know what exactly is being researched.
