The
idea of industrial design and a
contemporary theory of design aesthetics.
This
article brings attention to the importance of clarification of basic assumptions,
concepts, and ideology in industrial design. The concept of everyday
aesthetics is introduced and exemplified by the idea of experience
in Deweys philosophy, where the notions form and aesthetic
form are explained as forms of experience. Since the meaning of
experience in Deweys philosophy is near Bourdieus concept
habitus, the basic ideas behind Deweys reasoning and
Bourdieus sociology are compared. This comparison illustrates the
need to clarify the assumptions underlying different research perspectives,
in order to know what exactly is being researched.
