Jorge Frascara University of Alberta Design research as an action-oriented interdisciplinary activity Design’s purpose is to facilitate tasks, to make them more effective and rewarding, and to organize human experience, action and production. Research in design is intrinsically interdisciplinary. A taxonomy of types of research helps recognize the multifaceted nature of this field. This paper discusses design interventions that have included research from a variety of fields, showing different models of research, it will demonstrate how the knowledge generated by research can be turned into design criteria; and how the resulting design actions and products affect people.
