Combining design with other disciplines, creating new knowledge: the case of the idbm program

This paper presents the case of the International Design Business Management (IDBM) program that is an example of a successful effort to create new design knowledge through interdisciplinary convergence. These challenges can be addressed through close co-operation and teamwork between the professions connected to product development. As a collaborative program between three leading Finnish universities, the IDBM concept contributes to the creation of “a common ground” for industrial design research through concrete measures.
