    Ultra-mobile informatics applications
Today's computing and communication technologies support a wide range of possible scenarios for mobile applications. Using research tools to analyse the environment of the user in terms of rules, procedures, constrains and human factors, could make new products perform. Wearable computers, applied into complex information environment, would "empower" workers performing specific tasks. Industrial Design research represents a way to strategically develop complete systems of task-oriented products.

The Local-Global Relation: new challenges and design opportunities Brazil as a local case.
The reality of world globalisation is causing a fast and radical change in the world production and marketing scenario. At the core of the discussion it's the emerging of new production capacity through the Newly Industrialised Countries Ü NICs. In this research, taking into consideration the case of Brazil, we suggest to consider the effects of globalisation in a regional environment and to analyse its consequences on industrial production and local design.

Future scenerios for white household appliance. The culture about food, its preparation and presevation.
The aim of this research is to investigate new possible innovation matrixes for household appliances. These matrixes should be coherent with the great structural changes of the society and with the new cultural and technological contexts. It is possible to prime new product ideas by investigating the latent needs of the market, through a research procedure of new qualities of use, methodologically and culturally near to the creative process of the industrial design.

Design and education. Methods, strategy and tools for on-line learning.
The arts of knowledge, the capability to use to advantage and translate it to competence, are the focus of a problem area wich has as nucleus the reform of didactic and educational sistem. The aim of the research is to contribute to e-lerning development and to long life learning in Industrial design area studying the needs for access and connectivity and exploring different kind of technical possibilities available for supporting e-learning as a new perspective for Design teaching. advisor: Antonella Penati

Towards the establishment of alternative relationships between the theoretical and practical dimensions of doctoral research in design.
A gap exists in the relationship between theory and practice in the field of design research. This fact is to imply a direction of research methods, "research through design", where theory may join practice. Assuming that the theoretical models of design, the modes of design thinking, the research learning and knowledge creation are underlying the doctoral research in design, alternative relationships are to be established between its theoretical and practical dimensions.

Design for industrial districts. Industrial designÕs new roles and competences, in relationship with crafts production, for the competitiveness of Italians local productive systems.
The research is meant to define whatÕs crafts today and where it is located inside the Italian local productive systems, to define a "practical knowledge"Õs map. The aim is to define an actual and useful relation between crafts and design, always conflictually related.

The role of industrial design in planning and development of products for large buyers and consumers of the public administration.
The Industrial Design has the potential to act, with planning and developing instruments, in the product purchases of the Public Administration searching for new production and consumption models that lead to sustainable development. The research's main goal is to define methodological support instruments for the product planning and development for the large buyers particularly for the Public Administration.

New car sharing equipments for a sustainable mobility system.
The aim of this research is to reduce urban traffic. To achieve this objective we want to project new vehicle equipments for a low emission car sharing service. Today, most car sharing organizations doesnÕt use technological instruments to manage the service. This is the mainly reason why the potential users are so far away from car sharing. In the past technologies werenÕt available, but now there are many research institutes that test new instruments and new devices to improve vehicleÕs equipments, like smart card, GPS, diagnostic instrument, travel software etc.

The aesthetic characterization of the materials for design.
The research is developed in a survey on the categories of the materials aspect and their surfaces. The primary intention is the deepening and the definition of the systems of notation, the parameters of aesthetic characterization and the factors of sensory perception that supply useful criteria for a classification of materials for the design. The objective is the construction of a theoretical base for the realization of a design instrument that could bring a contribution to the culture of industrial design and that could help to interpret and to define the complex field of the phenomenal and perceptive aspects of the materials and their surface.
