Spontaneous
design, informal recycling and
everyday life in postindustrial metropolis
The
main objective of this paper is to acknowledge and discuss design issues
beyond the conventional. To look at the spontaneous design created by non-designers,
mainly by homeless people, street vendors as well street performists, and
the informal recycling process present in the postindustrial metropolis,
and in so doing make them more visible. Some products, artifacts and shelters
created by homeless people and street vendors will be subject of this paper.
The subject is approached from an interdisciplinary perspective that combines
design studies with other disciplines concerned to the issue.
