The
building of interfaces translating research contributions of contiguous
disciplines into a language readable by the design: one aspect of the design
research explained trough some research experiences in the field of life
cycle design
This
paper highlights one aspect of the design research: the need to build interfaces
translating some hard research results coming from contiguous disciplines
(but useful for the design) into a language readable by the culture and
the practice of design. Many research areas, such as science of material,
electronic, biotechnology, nanotechnology, IT, health care, environmental
assessment, etc. are fertile research grounds for the design world. The
problem is that the contributions emerging from these disciplines, being
usually harder, are not readable by the designers. Hence a role for the
design researcher is to build a bridge, an interface for the design world.
This specific design research activity is sampled through some experiences
in the field of Life Cycle Design.
