The
visual communication designer as mediator between message and audience:
toward a structured research process.
This
paper provides an overview of a user-centered research process for the development
of visual communications. Various possible research activities are presented,
and their respective strengths and weaknesses within certain contexts are
discussed. It is hoped that a model for a structured approach for incorporating
research activities with intended audience-members or users will result,
so that such an approach may become more common in visual communication
design practice and educational experiences.
